Report of Future/Vision Committee - April 2000

1. The NB re-affirm the original five-point mission statement of BCHA and recognize that we cannot be all things to all people. Our focus on wilderness and public land issues is narrow and must remain so for our organization to meet the goals and mission established at the time of formation. 2. The NB create a legal fund to be funded through voluntary contributions.

Vision of the Future: 1. Membership growth should include national expansion as well as retention of current members. 2. Educational goals and appropriate funding will help attain them. 3. Realizing that both our human and financial resources are limited, BCHA needs to work to protect both. 4. BCHA needs to increase its media exposure. 5. BCHA should be pro-active and not reactive. 6. BCHA should become the authority on low impact use in wilderness and public lands in addition to becoming full partners with the public agencies. 7. BCHA should seek out a legal expert/advisor. 8. A subcommittee of the Visions Committee was created to present a business plan to the committee at the NBM 2001 (Co-chairs Bruce Kartchner and Merlyn Huso).

Since young people are so important to our future, BCHA acknowledges and supports the conceptual ideas of BCH WA and their Junior BCH WA program.
