The Back Country Horsemen of America National Board established this special award in 2003 with the following criteria.
Back Country Horsemen of America (BCHA) will accept applications from any state or chapter/unit for recognition and award for volunteer projects and educational programs for the past year. These projects or programs can include, but not limited to, trail maintenance projects, trail construction, trailhead construction, educational program, and youth programs. They can be submitted for an individual program or an entire year’s worth of projects or programs.
Applications should include in writing what the project entailed and how the project was accomplished from start to finish. Answer the questions: who, what, where, when, why, and how. Also include any letters from the agency or private parties that you worked with on this project or program as long as it improves access and benefits the general public to these public lands. Also include any pictures or other information you think the committee can use in making its decision as to the best project or a group project for these awards.
Applications must be received prior to April 15th of the current year either at the BCHA office at PO Box 1367, Graham WA 98338 or the first day of the National Board Meeting. The BCHA Volunteer Hours Committee appointed by the National Chair of BCHA will decide winner or winners. The winner or winners will be announced at the BCHA National Board Meeting Annual Banquet.
